AN ORIGINAL CHANNEL TUNNEL, Trans Marche Link (TML) railway safety art poster "STAY ALERT - HEAVY PLANT" with artwork by D Ingram. One of a series of 22 humorous posters commissioned during the construction of the tunnel. These historic and original posters are being offered on this website. The poster size is 31" x 20.5" (787 x 521mm). The posters were published by TML in the late 1980s and were printed on tough art paper. The dry humour of the artist depicts a rather different view of the tunnel, with its staff and locomotives in the civil engineering construction era, than the later sleek Eurostar image! CHANNEL TUNNEL The tunnel system was handed over from TML, to Eurotunnel on 10 December 1993. It was however the 15th January 1994 before the last of the tests on completion was actually formally completed. Although the original idea was a direct handover of a fully operating system, there was a phased opening of the tunnel. The tunnel was officially opened by the Queen and Françoise Mitterand on 6th May 1994. On 14th May the Operating Certificates were granted for the HGV shuttles and the Freight trains. The services began on 19th May and 1st June. The test services for the Tourist shuttles began on 18th July and for the Eurostars on 17th August. The Operating Certificate for the Eurostars was granted on 12th October with commercial opening on 14th November. The Operating Certificate for Tourist shuttles was granted on 15th December with commercial opening on 22nd December. The poster is original and NOT a reproduction and is in excellent, rolled condition. NOTE: PRICE INCLUDES DELIVERY TO UK DESTINATIONS in a strong tube.
