Fairclough’s unpubished print of Rufford Abbey should be compared with Steel’s published print. Fairclough’s is a fine record but Steel’s has the edge with more intense lighting. Both worked on the same frontage. Evidently the great houses of the Dukeries certainly attracted compositions for carriage prints (see Welbeck and Worksop). Rufford Abbey was one classic choice.
