Edward, Eddie, Pond was born in 1929 in Hackney but spent childhood in Romford, Essex. Designer and businessman. At age of 22 was accepted into South East Essex Technical College and School of Art at Dagenham. Although initially interested in painting he studied textile design. Studied three years at the Royal College of Art. Received a silver medal for his dissertation. Worked for Bernard Wardle, manufacturers of coated fabrics. In first year, won the Council of Industrial Design, Design of the Year, Award. Appointed a director. Involved in training of designers. Made a director of Polycell. In 1976 established his own design consultancy, Edward Pond Associates and worked for numerous companies including Boots the Chemist, Ford Motor Company and National Trust. From 1981, was President of the Chartered Society of Designers and later Chairman of the Design and Industries Association. Produced carriage panels for British Rail, commissioned with only 3 days to complete the presentation and no brief! Panels used across Network Southeast trains, at stations and on promotional material.
