Charles Knight (RWS, ROI 1901-1990)

Landscape painter in watercolour & oils. Born Hove 27/8/1901. Father was keen amateur artist and naturalist. Studied Brighton College of Art,(and was later Vice Principal there), the RA Schools under Sickert and at the RCA. Represented in many public collections including British Museum. Was involved with other leading artists in painting places of interest during the war, which were published in the books 'Recording Britain'. Designed Inn Signs and was asked by Queen Mother to teach Princess Margaret to paint 1944-47. Was elected to RWS in 1935 and was vice president 1961-64. Lived at Ditchling, Sussex for much of his life. Died 15/5/1990.
